Saline water is simply salt water. It can be used for injection, rinsing contact lenses and nostrils, as well as rinsing out abscesses or other wounds. Some individuals prefer saline to water for mixing their drugs because they think it is easier on their veins, other people believe that the salt cuts into the drug making it weaker although there is no rationale behind this. Saline water can also be used as a gargle if someone has a cut or abscess in their mouth.
